This project investigated the food and feeding habits of the forest buffalo in Okornu&#13;
National Parle The study covered three months during the wet season (July to October&#13;
2005) and three months in the dry season (December to February 2005). The specific&#13;
objectives that were determined are the food preferences of the forest buffalo, the effects&#13;
or seasonality on the food of this animal and nutrient quality of the Food consumed by&#13;
the forest buffalo.&#13;
Two hundred faecal outputs were collected and examined, i.e. ninety-six (96) during the&#13;
wet season and one hundred and four (104) during the dry season. Samples from each&#13;
season were carefully broken and sieved using 1mm wire mesh to reveal the microscopic&#13;
contents of the faeces. Three weekly visits were made to the feeding sites of the forest&#13;
buffalo, with the visits being made between 0600 hours and 1600 hours.&#13;
Data were collected of the plant species and the parts eaten by this animal. Samples of&#13;
tile undigested materials and plant species that could not be identified in the field were&#13;
collected and preserved in 10% formal in specimen bottles for identification at the&#13;
Department of Forestry, Federal University or Technology, Akure and later compared&#13;
with standard herbarium. Samples of the dried faecal output and the plant species were&#13;
used Cor proximate analysis according to the Association of Analytical Chemists&#13;
(AOAC, 1990). Tile results show that the forest buffalo feeds on both grass and browse species. It feeds mainly on grass species (84%) during the wet season but consumed higher percentage of browse species (84%) during the dry season. The most preferred browse species is oncocalatuus spp, the result of the proximate composition carried out show that they were highly nutritious.

Investigation on the effect of broodstock size on fry survival and growth during the&#13;
primary rearing phase (14 days) of the hybrid of female Clarias gariepinus and male&#13;
Heterobranchus longifilis in glass aquaria was carried out. The use of small size-range&#13;
broodstock (:$ 250g) resulted in higher percentages fertilization than broodstocks of medium size-range (300- 650g) and large size-range (700- 950g). The percentage&#13;
egg hatching and fry survival were not significantly (P &gt; 0.05) influenced by the&#13;
weight and size of the broodstock, During the secondary rearing phase (56 days duration) growth and survival of the fingerlings of the same group of fish in hapa net cages were studied. Fingerlings from large size-range broodstock had the greatest average daily growth but fingerlings from medium size-range had the best specific growth rate and was significantly different (P &lt; 0.05) from the other treatments. The percentage fingerling survival for the treatments were similar.  Cost-benefit analysis of production revealed that it is most profitable to use broodstocks of medium size-range (300- 650g) than smaller or larger broodstocks for optimum fingerlings production.

<summary type="text">THE LAND USE PATTERN OF IFON GAME RESERVE, ONDO STATE

In an attempt to investigate the level of human encroachment in Ifon Game Reserve, 5% of the six villages were randomly selected at different regions of the reserve. The selection was done in a way that all ecological zones were represented. The following methods were used for the study: Oral interview, questionnaire and direct observation.&#13;
The following parameters were considered: Population density, occupation, proximity to&#13;
the reserve, and nature of damages done to biodiversity in the reserve. Photographs of important places and features were taken. Results were analysed using percentage distribution ranges. Graphical representation were used. Results showed that a large population illegal occupants are resident in the reserve. The illegal residents carry out a lot of nefarious activities on the park such as poaching, logging, fishing, mining, cultivation,&#13;
bush burning and road construction. Suggestions for effective control of the various destructive activities of man and the methods of maintaining the reserve for meeting with the objectives with which it was established were made.

Replacement value of jackbean meal for soybean meal as a dietary component for Tilapia,&#13;
Oreochromis niloticus was evaluated. Four isonitrogenous and isocaloric (30% crude protein) diets were fed to Oreochromis niloticus fingerlings (6.36 ± 0.07g) in a glass tank for70days. The soybean meal in the diet was replaced at the rate or 20, 30 and 40% to serve as test-diet D20, D30 and D40 respectively while a diet without jackbean meal served as control (CTR). There were no significant differences (P &gt; 0.05) in specific growth rate, weight gain, % weight gain and protein efficiency ratio between the fish fed control diet and diet D20 . Diet D40 differed significantly (P &lt; 0.05) from diet CTR, D20 and D30. However, there was no significant difference (P &gt; 0.05) in the protein efficiency between the fish fed control diet and test diets. Significant (P &lt; 0.05) variation occurred in nutrient (Protein) digestibility of fish fed control diets and test diets. However, there were no significant differences in lipid and organic matter digestibility of fish fed control diets and test diets. The profitability of feeding fish with the test diet was positive (as attested to by&#13;
profit index). The incidence costs of producing 1kg of fish with the control diet and test diets 020, D30 and D40 showed that it was cheaper to produce 1kg of fish with diets D20 and D30. The results showed that it is technically feasible, biologically and economically&#13;
effective to replace soybean meal up to 30% with jackbean in the practical diets of Oreochromis niloticus .
