Abstract:
Organisational culture and motivation are essential variables in every organisation. This is due to the general recognition that these variables do not only influence the individual employee’s performance but the whole organisation’s effectiveness, performance and sustenance. Thus, this study assessed the influence of organisational culture on employee motivation of hotels in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The study adopted a descriptive research design and used a survey questionnaire to collect primary data from 127 hotels and which was selected using a simple random sampling technique. The data obtained was processed using statistical packages for social sciences (SPSS) version 25. Objective one, two and three was analysed using relative awareness index, mean response rating and simple linear regression analysis in respectively. All variables of the study were above the recommended 0.7 Cronbach Alpha value. The results revealed that employees are more aware of espoused values (0.996), followed by basic underlying assumption (0.991) and lastly, observable artifacts (0.953). The result of objective two shows that the level of motivation of employees in the study area is very high for clear and fair company policies are spelt out (with the mean value of 4.90), followed by suitability of work environment (with the mean value of 4.72) and motivation of employees by top managers are available, excellent working relationship with peers and colleagues and work satisfaction (with average mean value of 4.68). Furthermore, the result of regression analysis revealed that there is a moderately correlation and statistical significant effect of organisational culture on employees’ motivation at (R=0.558, R2 =0.312, SF=0.00, p<0.05). The research concluded that organisational culture has significant influence on employees’ motivation of hotels in Akure. The study recommended, that hotels should use effective organisational culture to meet the organisational goals and should continue to develop more on the motivational techniques that is being used to motivate employees since employees are well motivated with the techniques.
