Abstract:
This research is a system design that focuses on harmonizing rescue efforts during
emergency operations which include disaster management: response and recovery stages. There is
therefore need to develop integration model for disaster and emergency management that will
support community resilience to the phenomenon. The geospatial data used for the research work
includes satellite image for the study area and performing GIS processes such as georeferencing,
digitizing, building network dataset and road layers. Data and tools used include satellite image of
Ikeja Local Government Area, geographic locations of primary emergency responders in latitude
and longitudes, Google form, Awesome tables and ArcGIS 10.3. The first phase of the study is to
determine the trends in social media usage in Nigeria where a detailed demographic was
established and how citizen journalism can best assist in social media data provision. To achieve
this, a questionnaire was used which were distributed across blogs and forums. Also, the road
network layer of the study area was developed using ArcGIS 10.3 and geocoded with locations of
primary responders to help determine the nearest location for evacuation. To justify the word
integration in the title of the study, a web application was developed can be assessed on
https:mcapata.info with the purview of likely emergency situation that are peculiar to the study
area.
