ASSESSMENT OF PROJECT MANAGEMENT TECHNIQUES IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF HOUSING SCHEMES WITHIN LAGOS STATE NIGERIA

Abstract

Project management is an art of directing and coordinating human and material resources throughout the life of a project by using modern management techniques to achieve predetermined objectives of scope, cost, time, quality and participation satisfaction. This dissertation focuses on the Assessment of project management techniques in the development of housing scheme within Lagos in Nigeria. The objective of the research is to see the important of periodic Assessment on skills of individuals’ process of documenting their knowledge, skills, attitude and beliefs to further highlight the various advantages of the application of this techniques and their shortcoming. The objective of the research is to examine how Assessment of Project Management Techniques will contribute to the performance of construction and Project Management firms within Lagos state. On the other hand it further gives the various means labour, materials, scope, communication, time, procurement and plant management, methods adopted on project including the allocation of resources to different item of works. However, project management (PM) is becoming increasingly important, for any organization to remain competitive in today’s dynamic world. Organization especially building and construction industries are striving to raise the Project Management maturity by adopting PM tools and continuously improving their PM practices and process. It involve administrative questionnaire to project and construction firms in Lagos state random sampling techniques was used. Data collected from these firms were therefore collated and analyzed base on their response so as to know how the Assessment of the project management techniques serves as management tools and influence level of productivity in the development of Housing scheme in Nigeria. Thus, projects are selected and overseen based on contribution to their strategic plan. Project approval, timing and resources allocation decision are continually re- assessed to ensure optimal use of resources so, this project management practices need to be periodically continuously improved base on measurement of key performance indicators of compliance and project success for the development of housing scheme for the entire populace in Lagos state in Nigeria
