dc.description.abstract projects, regardless of industry, sector or size of the project. Studies have proved that the overall application and use of formal project management methodologies and tools is considerably low in developing countries. This research has studied the factors that hinder the adoption of formal project management methodologies and tools in project implementation in Ondo State. Structured questionnaire(s) were administered on respondents, so also one-on-one interview was used. Purposive and snowball sampling methods were used to select the respondents. Descriptive analytical tools such as percentage mean, chi-square test of association as well as inferential tools ( kendall parametric correlation) were used to analyze the data collected from the field. Chi square result shows that the professionals in construction industry have a little knowledge of project management methodologies and tools,(X 2 value=21.130,p>0.5) .Similarly, they do not recognize management methodologies and tools, and neither can they use the tools effectively for project implementation. Result of parametric correlation revealed that the use of project management methodologies accounted for 56.8% variance in project implementation. (R= .783, F= 3.749, P <0.5) . The low rate or non-use of these project management tools is caused by a number of factors. These factors include lack of training on usage of methodologies and tools, and non-commitment of top management officers to the use of tools and methodologies among others. The research revealed that project implementation success depended on the use of project management methodologies and tools. Based on the research findings, it is recommended that trainings and seminars should be organized more frequently for construction professionals and top management of organizations should make provision and policies that enhance or facilitate the use of project management methodologies. en_US
