Abstract:
The study evaluated the project management process in Ondo State Oil Producing Areas
Development Commission (OSOPADEC) construction projects in Ondo State, Nigeria. The study
identified the project management process adopted by OSOPADEC in carrying out their
construction projects, and the challenges being encountered in respect to project management
process while carrying out construction projects. It also examined the effects of project
management process on OSOPADEC construction projects. This was with a view to determining
the effect of the project management process on the construction projects. The study covered two
local government in the Southern part of Ondo State: Ese-Odo and Ilaje respectively and it covered
all projects executed by OSOPADEC in Ondo South Senatorial District. In making the findings of
this research possible, ninety-three (93) copies of questionnaire were administered while the total
number of usable responses received for the analysis was seventy-two (77.42%). The data was
analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study revealed that construction projects
process are sequenced (4.96), terminal evaluation is carried out on construction projects (4.87) and
construction projects are in line with intended objectives (5.00). Also revealed are the challenges
being encountered by OSOPADEC in respect to project management process. However, the most
highly ranked challenge is the non-available of software for project management process (5.00)
and non-inclusion of project management professionals (4.96). The study concludes that project
management process improves timely construction project delivery, quality of the project, work
breakdown structure and cost breakdown structure. The study recommended that the existing
project management process be revised and strengthened to further improve construction projects
being carried out by OSOPADEC.
