Abstract:
Disputes are common in public building constructionprojects, and they havea number of
attendant effects on project and parties involved. Many of the previous studies carried out on
disputes in building projects focused on how to resolve issues as they arise. Inspite of this,
building project delivery in Nigeria has been considered inefficient in terms of cost overrun,
time delay and poor quality standards. This study was conducted to identify the causes of
disputes and examine techniques of preventing disputes as well as assess the effects of dispute
prevention on attainment of building project goals in public building projects in Osun State
through survey questionnaires distributed to the client, contracting and consulting
organizations. Data collected were analysed using both descriptive and inferential statistics.
Demographic characteristic of respondents were presented in tables, frequencies and
percentages. Relative Importance Index and Spearman’s correlation coefficient were applied
to the set objectives while the test of hypothesis was carried out using Chi-Square. Results
