The study was carried out to examine the effect of capacity development in Ondo State Ministry of Works, and to determine the relationship between human capacity development and sustainable performance in the work force. This study further examined the level of improvement noticed among workers after training input. The study also identified various human capacity plans and techniques adopted in the study area. Questionnaires were administered to study areas which include, Akure, Ondo, Owo, Ikare and Okitipupa area offices. Through the information sourced from the official record of the ministry of works, total numbers of 14 trainings were conducted from January 2013 to April 2016. The impacts of these trainings on the workers were assessed on yearly bases. The total number of questionnaires distributed were 164, out of which 150 were retrieved, which were used for the study. Descriptive analysis, such as frequency table, simple percentage and mean rating, was used to analyses the result of this study and chi-square techniques were employed to test the hypotheses. For hypothesis one, the result shows that the calculated chi-square value (600.57) was greater than the critical chi-square (1.2584E-132) at α = 0.05, df=1. The P-value (0.0001) is far less than 0.05(i.e P<0.05). For hypothesis two, the result also shows that the calculated chi-square value (177.76) was greater than the critical chi-square value (1.49458E- 40) at α=0.05, df=1. The P-value (0.0001) is less than 0.05( i.e. P<0.05). In both cases the null hypotheses were rejected and alternative hypotheses were accepted. Over 70% of the sampled customers gave positive comment in all cases as regard each question asked to assess staff-customer relationship. It was revealed that human capacity development played a major role in the improvement of workers in the study area. This study recommends that more training programs should be designed with increased participants and motivation programme for the trainees should be strengthened. |
