Abstract:
There are noticeable gaps in aspects of the Nigerian real estate education and practice. Predicated by its relative infancy, one area where this gap is more apparent is facilities management (FM), particularly in the measurement of performance. This study is a systematic review of a number of performance measurement (PM) tools that have been developed for assessment or adapted to the performance of buildings/facilities and efficiency of the facilities manager. This study reviews some performance measurement tools including the Balanced Score Card, Post Occupancy Evaluation, Hinks and McNay’s key performance indicators, Performance Value Model, Benchmarking, Logometrix and Usability concept. The research examines the strengths and weakness of each method and their peculiar applicability to the Nigerian environment according to literature. It also discusses the attributes of a typical PM tool that will be applicable to FM in Nigeria.
