dc.description.abstract In this study, a management information system was developed with the aim of determination of legislative compliance in Nigerian solid mineral industries taking Edo state as a case study. Data were collected from the field by administering questionnaires to top mineral extractive industries within the study area. These data obtained consist of response of the quarry operators on some major legislations guiding mineral extraction in Nigeria such as compliance to the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), compliance to standard requirements for explosives magazine administration, and compliance to prompt and appropriate royalty payments. These data was thereafter inputted to a software (Q-Analyser) which was developed for the purpose of this study to determine the level of compliance to the provisions of mineral laws and regulations. The findings reveal that only two companies out the total thirty companies assessed have defaulted the provisions of the law as regards appropriate royalty payment and only one defaulted as regards prompt royalty payment. However, it was discovered that up to fifteen companies out of the thirty companies defaulted the provisions of the law as regards the standard required safety distance for situating explosives magazines from dwelling places. It was also discovered that up to seven companies out of the thirty companies assessed engage completely incompetent personnel in the administration of it explosives magazine contrary to the provision of the law. This indicates that many of the mineral extractive industries within the study area still have challenges complying with the provisions of the laws on explosives magazine administration. en_US
