IMPLEMENTATION OF VIABLE INSTITUTIONAL FRAMEWORK OF FACILITIES MANAGEMENT TO THE SUSTAINABILITY OF TEACHING AND RESEARCH EQUIPMENT IN TERTIARY EDUCATION IN NIGERIA.

Abstract

There is increasing demand for better and quality delivery of Teaching and Research in Tertiary Institution. However there is paucity of funds for procurement and maintenance of equipment and tools as well as infrastructural developments. Teaching and Research equipments are considered to be among the most complicated and sophisticated type of facilities to manage, maintained, and operate. This study takes a peep into the in-house and outsourcing strategies adopted by FUTA in the management of her Teaching and research facilities. The objectives are to; examine various Teaching and Research users’ satisfaction, awareness, and the practices in use. The Study adopted the open parallel empirical approach in assessment of in-house managers’ performance, and questionnaires were administered through simple random technique. Only One hundred and twenty (120) stakeholders representing different cadre of administrative, Technologist, Academic and students were sampled and data collected was analyzed. The study discovered that FUTA had gradually been adopting out-sourcing in managing some of its non-core businesses. In conclusion therefore, there is need for collaborative synergy between the in-house practice and emerging trends in FM, so as to establish a professional and ethical standard that will be able to cope with the intricacies and demand of sustaining Teaching and research equipment as key issues facing management of Teaching and Research Equipment in Tertiary Institution in Nigeria.
