.The thesis titled “Assessment of Fabrics Display and Embellishments in Social Event centres in Akure, Nigeria,” assessed the type of fabrics and embellishments used to decorate event centres. The analysis was based on the research questions and objectives of the study. Three groups of respondents were identified for the study: the event planners, the event decorators and event attendees. 602 (100%) questionnaires were administered out of which 592 (98.3%) responded. The researcher also showcased a sample of mini- event planning in the Department of Industrial Design. Analyses on the socio-demographic characteristics of the event planners and the event decorators reveal that majority of the decorators were within the age bracket of 25-47years. This finding implies that majority of them are in their active working age. On the basis of sex, male constituted the majority, 36 (60.0%) while the female formed the remaining 24(40.0 %.) It was observed that, there were more male than female who are into event planning and event decoration. This might also be attributed to the issue of effort and strength needed for the work. The result shown that event decorators in Akure often applied the seven basic design principles which are unity, harmony, rhythm, emphasis, scale, balance and function in their works. It was also discovered that seven types of imaginary lines include, vertical, horizontal, angular, oblique, diagonal, curved, circular, spiral and zigzag could be seeing on backdrop, chair sashes, table skirting, swaging, draping, ceiling drapes, plaiting which were displayed on items of decoration such as walls, tables, chairs, ceilings and ceilings. The result of mini event planning revealed the relevance of principles and elements of design result to an excellent event decoration. It was therefore suggested that event planners and event decorators should engage in regular seminars from the professionals for the upgrading of their works. This research work has provided information on the possible areas of usage of fabrics which will serve as an eye opener in the area of job creation for young graduates and potential entrepreneur. |
