dc.description.abstract Employees are among the most important determinants and leading factors that determine the success of an organization in a competitive environment. Besides that, if managed properly, employee commitment and satisfaction can lead to beneficial consequences such as increased effectiveness, performance, and productivity, and decreased turnover and absenteeism at both the individual and organizational levels. This study assessed the job satisfaction of Quantity Surveyors (QS) in Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), with a view to improving the level of job satisfaction of this set of workers and by extension, improving the level of their commitment to the service. The study adopted a survey approach whereby quantitative data were gathered from QS within selected zones of the NIS. Questionnaire was employed as the research instrument while descriptive statistics such percentile, frequency, mean score and inferential statistics such correlation, one sample t-test and Mann-Whitney u-test were used in analyzing the data gathered. The study revealed that the most significant factors influencing QS Job Satisfaction include: Opportunity for recognition, career advancement opportunities, and salary or wages. The study further showed that there was a high level of satisfaction being enjoyed by the QS in the NIS with the highest satisfaction derived in the level of responsibility on the job and the organizational policies of the NIS. The result of the study further revealed that the QS in the NIS exhibited continuance commitment. It further revealed that there was no significant difference in the level of satisfaction of QS in both the professional cadre and the general duty cadre in most of the identified job satisfaction variables. However, a significant difference existed in the aspect of organizational policies of NIS, and meaningfulness of the job among the two cadres. The study therefore recommended that QS should be allowed to work in their area of expertise so as to reduce the disparity in their satisfaction. The authorities of the NIS should recognize the efforts the QS put into their duty, thereby creating avenue for advancement opportunity in career progression, professional development for their workers, and increase QS commitment to their job. en_US
