Abstract:
The study was conducted to assess the problems encountered by design and build contractors and evaluate their associated impact on the successful execution of projects.
The study was undertaking using both primary and secondary data collection methods. Structured questionnaires were administered to the participants that were chosen from a random sampling technique.
The study revealed that there is a significant understanding of the concept of design and build by construction industry participants. Also, the study showed that there is a significant difference between the clients, consultants and contractors in their perception of the performance of design and build contractors.
The study added to the body of knowledge already existing in this field and would also be of great value to contractors, clients, consultants and policy makers.
Lastly, the work recommended that contractors should not only focus on the cost of the project, but on the final output their client’s desire and for design and build to be successful, the lines of communication must be made clear right from the start of the project.
