dc.description.abstract This study assessed the Maintenance Management Practices on the Sustainability of Public Buildings in Higher Institutions in Ado Ekiti Nigeria. Data were obtained from the respondents using purposive sampling method through a well-structured questionnaire. One hundred and forty (154) copies of questionnaire were sent out while one hundred and eighty-five (138) copies were retrieved for the analysis making a response rate of 89.6%. Descriptive and appropriate inferential statistics such as (mean and standard deviation, Relative Importance Index and Multiple Linear Regression) were employed for the data analysis using SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Science) software version 22. The extent of maintenance management practices being carried out in the study area revealed that metalwork maintenance ranks highest closely followed by plumbing work with mean values of (3.85 and 3.70) respectively. Also, factors influencing adequate maintenance management practices are budgetary allocation, materials specification, design and proper workmanship, natural phenomenon and personnel incompetence with mean scores of (4.10, 4.10, 3.94, 3.80 and 2.32) respectively. The effect of maintenance management practices on sustainability of public building projects. This was examined through the use of multiple linear regression, the model summary which shows an R2 value of 0.596 and Adjusted R2 value of 0.364. The R square value indicates that maintenance management practices explain 59.6% of variance in public building sustainability and thus the study revealed only corrective maintenance and breakdown maintenance are the two major maintenance management practices in the study area. The study concluded that maintenance management contributed greatly to the sustainability of public buildings and thus it must be taken seriously to avoid unnecessary damage to our public buildings. en_US
