dc.description.abstract In this thesis, different Criteria are used to investigate the best design for the allocation of samples into strata under stratified random sampling. Stratified real life data from the Education and Meteorological sectors of Ondo state are subjected to analysis to obtain population characteristics using three allocation procedures. Having consideration to the analysis and estimates obtained, the Mean Squared Error (MSE) and its components-Bias and Variance- under the three procedures are compared to make conclusion. The conclusion is that the performances of the three allocation procedures (Equal, Proportional and Optimum/Neyman) vary under different conditions. The conditions considered in this work include Sample Sizes and Distributions. Out of the Fifteen (15) cases considered using the MSE criteria, it was found that Optimunm /Neyman Allocation Method dominates in Eight (8), Proportional Allocation Method dominates in Four (4) while Equal Allocation Method dominates in Three (3). en_US
