dc.description.abstract The research developed a software capable of predicting crankshaft and engine block refurbishing due date and the cost implication. The report identifies the procedures and parameters involved in the refurbishing of crankshaft and engine block. Detailed search of literature on crankshaft and engine block was conducted and visits were made to the workshops to investigate their approach to crankshaft and engine block refurbishment. Critical Path Method and Program Evaluation and Review Technique were employed using data collected from the refurbishing activities and also in determining the values of Earliest Start Time, Latest Start Time, Earliest Finish Time, Latest Finish Time, float, processing, completion time and due dates. In order to determine the cost implication, an Activity-Based Costing (ABC) model was employed. The model was to develop a software application using vb.net on Microsoft Visual Basic Studio. The software was validated using case study on the refurbishing of crankshafts and engine blocks of Toyota Camry, Nissan bus and Man Diesel truck at Afolabi Mechanical workshop and Denehin Mechanical Workshop, Akure. The results were found to strongly correlate to the output data from the software, thereby confirming that the software developed is effective in determining the due date and the cost implication of refurbishing crankshaft and engine block. Hence the software can be used by job shop managers to determine the completion time and cost implication of refurbishing a crankshaft and an engine block en_US
