Abstract:
The impact toughness; tensile properties - tensile strength at maximum load, tensile strength at break and yield strength; as well as hardness property of medium carbon steels rolled from inland rolling mills (Ajaokuta Steel Company Limited (ASCL) and Delta Steel Company (DSC, were determined experimentally and quantitatively in this search.
The experimental data obtained were used to develop models with and without iron which is the major constituent of the materials using statistical analysis. The precise
tool used for development of these models was multiple regression analysis and the
models were used to obtain the calculated (numerical) values of these properties for each of the materials under investigation. Statistical tests were thereafter carried out to validate the models developed. The tests performed were pair t-tests, correlation efficient and standard error; they were used to compare the experimental and numerical values of these properties which were found valid within the limit of experimental error. Computer software named "ROLLED STEEL INFORMATION SYSTEM 2010" was thereafter developed from the models which help to quickly estimate the relevant mechanical properties of the rolled ribbed medium carbon steels.
