dc.description.abstract In the last few decades, there has been an increase in the number of plant-based antioxidant supplements owning to their supposed relative safety and efficacy. In this study, TrevoTM, a pytopharmaceutical product was investigated for its protective effects on cyanide-induced oxidative stress and neurotoxicity with a view to providing scientific support for its acclaimed neuroprotective potentials. The antioxidant potentials of TrevoTM was assessed through the evaluation of its reducing power; ability to scavenge hydroxyl, 2, 2ʹ azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothazoline-6 sulphonic acid) and nitric oxide radicals; and lipid peroxidation inhibitory activity. In addition, the protective effect of TrevoTM on rat brain homogenates challenged with cyanide was evaluated. Markers of oxidative stress, extent of lipid peroxidation, levels of brain homogenate electrolytes and the activities of acetylcholinesterase and lactate dehydrogenase were evaluated. The results showed that TrevoTM demonstrated remarkable antioxidant activities, significantly ameliorated cyanide-induced oxidative stress, caused decrease in the level of brain Ca2+ and Mg2+ and the activities of acetylcholinesterase and lactate dehydrogenase in rat brain homogenates. It can be suggested that TrevoTM possess protective effect against neurotoxicity induced brain damage and may be effective in the management of neurologic disorders. en_US
