Abstract:
This project presents the development of a software for modeling cement production process, in industry using JAVA, a multipurpose computer programme. A lot of bottleneck was faced in the area of gathering and collating information from the different departments of the company under study, especially from the security men who will not allow entrance expect on official appointment. But this was finally overcome after constant visit and explanations on how beneficial the research will be to the management and to the cement industry at large. The application of this software to a real life situation usingWest African Portland cement as a case study shows the effect of machine or material limiting factor on the cement production level for any given period and the associated manufacture cost which are generated automatically. A well structured flow chart, which explain the process planning of cement production was developed which takes into account the major constituents of cement while also considering the manufacture cost details. The developed software was able to produce a better and higher output of cement within a given period than that of the manual method, having between 86.020/0··1000/0 efficiency, depending on the period of production. The developed software shows that the model was faster in the production process and computations with a percentage difference in the manufacture cost of between 0.93%-1.31 % when compared to the manual method.
