PROPOSED RECREATIONAL PARK IKORODU, LAGOS STATE. (Sustaining a Healthy Lifestyle for Urban Residents through Nature).

Abstract

A healthy lifestyle is a way of living that lowers the risk of being seriously ill or dying early. Living healthy is not just about avoiding diseases, it is also about physical, mental and social wellbeing. Physical Activity plays an important part in sustaining a healthy lifestyle irrespective of gender, age and class an individual belongs. Everyone needs to keep their bodies working well in order to be healthy. One of the ways in achieving this apart from the activity done at work is to be involved in recreational activities. This research work has provided a compendium of information on recreational park and how it can be developed. Detailed explanation of what recreational park is all about and how nature can be used to sustain a healthy life style of the urban residents were given. A critical documentation and analysis of selected existing recreational parks and centres (case study) were carried out. Furthermore, the analysis of the proposed site was considered together with the construction methodology and building materials as well as the appraisal of the proposed project. Finally, it was concluded that the execution of this project will aid the development of the host community and also serve as revenue generator to the country. It was also recommended that for healthy lifestyle to be sustained recreational parks should be part of the built environment plan and policy should be put in place to restrict indiscriminate destruction of nature and natural resources.
