Abstract:
The problem of unavailability of facilities designed for children amusement park using the right anthropometric parameters and the procurement cost due to importation duties have been a big challenge. Provision of children vehicle for amusement park using anthropometric parameters will go a long way to solve the problems associated with boredom in children during their visit. In this research work, 40 anthropometric parameters which can be used in design facilities for children were collected from 150 (80 male and 70 female) children between ages 3 to 12 years. The data was analyzed to determine the 5th, 50th and 95th percentiles for both female and male. Some of the analyzed anthropometric parameters were used in the design of two sitter battery powered vehicle for children amusement park. Detailed drawings, animation and simulation of all the major component parts were produced using Autodesk Investor CAD software. The major component parts of the vehicle are the steering system, the electric motor, battery, the chassis and frame, the tyres and wheels, the doors and the seat and each of these component parts were designed using appropriate design equations. The vehicle was designed to have its maximum speed to be 4 m/s. Power required was determined to be 6.4 kW. The vehicle was designed to be powered with three deep cycle battery each of them with 12 V by 200 AH which will power the vehicle for one hour before it will be recharge. The simulation results revealed that the vehicle could work both on smooth and rough surface. The simulation result shown the behavior of the suspension system which revealed that the vehicle is stable when it carried two children with the speed of 4 m/s. The vehicle was designed for ease of fabrication and maintenance. The cost of producing a prototype of the vehicle was estimated to be 360,850 NGN.
