Abstract:
In an attempt to reduce the rate of ozone-depletion and global warming effects, a refrigerant recovery/recycling machine was designed, fabricated and evaluated. The machine consists of a heat exchanger, capillary tubes, filter dryer, solenoid valves and 18 ℎ𝑝 (93.25 W) hermetically reciprocating compressor. The machine was tested using R12 and R22 refrigerants and the results of its performance tests indicated that the machine has 87.5 % recovery efficiency and 85.68 % recycling efficiency. The capacity of the machine is 19.44 kg/hr. All materials used for the construction were sourced locally, and the estimated cost of producing this machine is one hundred and six thousand, five hundred and eighty three naira (N106, 583.00).
