| dc.description.abstract | Facility is the most mandatory things that can make an action, operation or courses of conduct easier. It can also be defined as aid or circumstances, which makes it easy to do things. The issue of facility management are set out to highlight the intricacies involve in facility maintenance especially as it applies to a public in either institution in a bid to enhance performance practice. Facility management involving the task of designing, construction, maintenance and management of the physical environment as it relates to people and the work process. It is involved the coordination controlling and management of all the support service necessary to maintain a business operation and allow it to achieve it’s corporation goals. Facility management integrates the business administration, architecture and the behavioral and engineering sciences. It is seen as the structuring of building plant and content to enhance the creation of the end product as with all systems, it is generated benefit to the business that matters not the system itself. The end product can in this case be a tangible manufactured item or services. As long as the role of estate surveyor and valuer in facility management is concern, the study is based on descriptive and critically analysis in examination of the facility maintenance practice of the (ISTH) which is University Teaching Hospital. It covers activities at the main premises such as out patient clinic, consulting rooms, laboratories lecture theatres, operating theatres, lifts and supporting facilities such as the sewage treatment plant, the water and electricity installation roads etc. As long as the purpose to evolve a sound and improved maintenance practice at the public health institution, the study is imperative because of the need to continuously guarantee enjoyment of the unquantifiable benefits to the society functioning and the continued existence of these institutions. There are several constraints to prosper facility maintenance in public health institutions in Nigeria. These can be seen to be as result of the depressed economy and are usually manifested by inadequacy of funds set aside for importation of duties, freight charges and low level of technology between local current global level of technology. In the light of this dissertation of the study is subsequently divided into five chapter. Chapter one contains the introductory chapter and the plan of the study. Chapter two contains the literature review including definitions of term such as facility management maintenance, why maintenance is required. Chapter three contain introduction to the case study (ISTH) including the historical background activities performed there is preliminary surveys and data collection. Chapter four contains statistical distillation including data analysis and presentation, interpretation of data obtained vis-a-vis the stated objectives. Chapter five contains summary of findings, conclusions recommendations including problems of methodology. Finally the project will focus on the public health institution-University College of Hospital Ibadan as a case study on it approach to facility management within the Institution. | en_US |
