Abstract:
With the Advent of Third - Generation Technology just ahead, wireless terminals
and handsets will offer applications that go way beyond basic voice communications.
Before this becomes a reality, the technology must pass through various stages of
standard development around the world. Design and planning of Digital fiber Optical
System in Nigerian Telecommunication was studied on the plesiochronous digital hierarchy design and the upgrade version of it, which is known as synchronous digital hierarchy using a section of the national transmission network of NITEL within Oyo State as a case study. Both designs were implemented to provide free flow of communication traffics among the local exchanges with their subscribers and other telecommunication stations connected to this network. The development of digital fibre optic system has proved to be faster, cheaper and easier to acquire, implement, operate and maintain as against other line communication systems Also. the utilization of this system has been evaluated during the course of study from the annual overall system availability to be more efficient and reliable.
