dc.description.abstract Digital Video Broadcasting is a widely accepted technology developed by the DVB group. Digital Video Broadcasting – Terrestrial (DVB-T) is one of the digital broadcasting standards developed to make transmission more accessible and readily available. The aim of this research work is to study, observe and evaluate the effect (s) of interference on DVB-T transmission and to establish a minimum error level condition for DVB-T transmission in a multipath prone environment using the MATLAB/Simulink software. In order to evaluate the performance of the DVB-T system; three noisy channels were considered: (a) AWGN channel; (b) Rayleigh channel; (c) combination of both noisy channels, i.e. AWGN and Rayleigh. The peak signal to noise ratio values (Eb/No) and Doppler shift were varied to understand the behavior of the channels prone to interference. Simulation results show that the AWGN has a lesser effect on the DVB-T system compared with the Rayleigh Fading Channel that exhibits much effect such as distortion, fading, loss of orthogonality, and loss of transmitted signal. The combination of both noisy channels was used in the establishment of a minimum error level condition for a DVB-T transmission in a multipath prone environment, while the eye diagram gave a visual display of the effects of interference on the DVB-T system. en_US
