Abstract:
The need to proffer sustainable solution to the present electricity generation crises in Nigeria due to inconsistency in the electricity generation pattern across Nigeria which causes high losses, reactive power issues and low electricity generation capability motivated this study. The study analyzed using available data of current daily electricity generated, transmitted and demand on Nigeria power grid system within year 2018 to 2020. Also, simulation and load flow of Nigeria 330kV power grid was done considering voltage stability analysis using DIgSILENT PowerFactory due to the software efficiency. The result identified Kano bus as area where energy is critically needed, and considering the Critical Excess Electricity Production (CEEP), 200MW was identified as suitable energy that can be tied to Kano bus using Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system being the most abundant source of electricity potential available as proved by research on Nigeria irradiant pattern. The 200MW Solar PV integrated shows a corresponding improvement in the percentage loading of the lines and helps in eliminating the effect of line limitation experienced in Kano region. The study thereby analyze the practical materials that will be needed for the implementation of the research to be 551,274 minimum numbers of 550 Pmax monocrystalline solar PV modules, 653,595 numbers of 6V 400AH deep cycle batteries, 250MW Solar inverter with 1500Vdc input voltage and 1,532 numbers of 1500V MPPT Charge controller with 12 ports of 26A connection point with an estimated total cost of about 328,364,490,240 naira for practical implementation of the research.
