Abstract:
The primary objective of establishing Federal Universities of Technology include among others, to identify the technological problems and needs of the society and to find solutions to them within the context of overall national development. Thus, the Federal University of Technology, Akure has established the Centre for Research and Development to fulfill this mandate, by pooling together the various human and material resources at its command.
This thesis will particularly investigate the spatial principles guiding the design of such a Centre with emphasis on flexibility of use since scientific research relies mainly on new inventions and processes. It is thus the duty of any designer to appreciate the array of modern equipment and their spatial and service requirements when embarking on such a challenging project.
