Abstract:
Housing is generally accepted as the second most important need of man after food. In view of this fact, it is not an option for governments at all levels to make housing accessible and affordable for every category of citizenry, be it low, medium or high income earner. This thesis looks critically into the past National Housing Policies so far in Nigeria and at the same time identify problems/bottleneck which have been a cog in the wheel of progress as far as housing provision and development is concerned. However, housing being one of the parameters in measuring the standard of living of a given set of people or a nation, the study patiently looked at the current housing situation in Nigeria with a particular reference to Osun state, itemize factor that is affecting housing development, identifying reason for the failure of the past housing policies and finally make recommendations and proffer solutions to the menace of housing problems in Osun state in particular and Nigeria as a whole.
