Abstract:
This study cxanunes the present management and control of groundwater, storrnwutcr and stream now in Government Residential Estate at l lesha Road- Akure, Ondo State. The samples or these waters were collected lor laboratory analysis to determine their level of contamination and the treatment necessary them to human use for domestic water supply. The results or the laboratory analysis were analyzed and used to design a treatment plant for water supply lor the study area.
lnordcr to get an efficient conveyance system lor the stormwaicr /l0\\ and water supply in the study area, the topography or the area was studied and
the spot heights or all the roads in the area were taken and their slopes
determined. The results of these measurements and studies were used to design
the drain channels and treated water piping networks. The population or the estate was calculated using the allocated plots and assumed inhabitants or 12, 12, and H per plot in the high, medium, and low densities areas respectively. (Note that the "density" here referred to the number of plots that makes a section of the estaie.) These information and that of the rainfall depth or the area were used to calculate the various components or a treatment plant. There are two possible means of convenient water supply to the estate; these arc the construction or a treatment plant in the estate or the extension or the public water supply pipe to the estate. l lowevcr the construction or a treatment plant is suggested because the public water supply is not reliable. The econonuc implications or all available systems were assessed to
show their financial involvement ant this shows that it will cost W144,323,()OO.OO to provide the present system or water supply by the inhabitants while Government will provide W635,000,000.00 for the proposed treatment plant and W475,000,000.00 for the public-water distribution system
