dc.description.abstract The name 'Durbar' is traced to the early 1ih century in the alteration of Urdu 'darbar' from Persian 'dar' and 'bar' which means 'door' and court' respectively. Durbar refers to an official reception held by a local chief and British government in the colonial Africa. The Durbar Square Temples in the Nepalese capital city of Kathmandu are the focus of Kathmandu's tourism industry and it has one of Nepal's richest collections of historical structures. Also in Kano, the Emir, chiefs and horsemen displaying their cultural life to tourists, and other invited guests celebrate the durbar festival. 'Hotel' as the name implies is embedded in the everyday development around the world today. Everybody needs a new thing likewise our territory. We often get satisfied with what we get around us just because a new thing is yet to come. Abuja has been found out be the home of tasteful hotels meeting up to international standards. Now do we need more hotels? If the answer is no, then we are saying no to hotel architecture, tourism and all factors incumbent on the development of our underdeveloped nation. The following proffers ajustification for this dissertation. The thesis fulfills the concept of durbar, which indicates hospitality, along with basic facilities for a world-class durbar hotel which includes horse-racing. A detailed literature review of hotel requirements is studied and case studies of existing five-star hotels both local and internationally are carried out with their merits and demerits noted. To achieve this successfully, data and information are collected from various sources through field research and library research as well as through Internet services for up date information as well as existing durbar hotels. en_US
