Abstract:
This work is born out of the need to create a proficient camping environment for
youth development. A summary of most research done rests on the fact that, camps can
offer great possibilities to successfully respond to developmental needs of youths. This
research work shows that the architectural design acts as an integral part ofthis process,
especially in permanent camps. The findings also reveal that the choice of architectural
elements, and the interrelationship of facilities in permanent youth camps have a variety
of styles and formats, and thus provide activities that vary to meet different needs. The
resultant design proposal for the Nigerian youth for Christ resident camp is a solution to the design task of maximizing the superlatives ofa selected suitable campsite, to map out
facilities in an efficient manner, with respect to the flow of activities expected in the
camp. The pragmatic combination and synthesis of indoor, outdoor and landscaping
elements to create amenities to enhance the camping experience required, is the
personification of this work.
