dc.description.abstract Due to technology advancement from the Industrial Revolution to the present day, . the need for closer control over the accuracy, creation, modification, analysis, optimization, storing and communication of design information of systems used for transmitting power made available has also progressed. As a result, an interactive userfriendly and menu-driven CAD GEAR '2003 proprietary software is built to assist in the creation, modification, analysis, optimization, and storing of spur gear design information. This low cost software facilitates the design of spur gears, validates users input and eliminates human errors that may result from design process. It generates accurate data used in design process; performs repetitive and routine tasks involved in spur gear design. It also produces precise and efficient 2D (two dimensional) design drawings of the gears and stores the information for use in manufacturing and future design activities. It was observed that this proprietary software has the advantage of low cost over other operating software for spur gear design. The introduction of this software to the society will in no small way increase productivity and the reliability of spur gear design in Nigeria. en_US
