Abstract:
Computer Performance evaluation is required at any stage in the life cycle of a
computer system, including system design, system selection/procurement, and system
usage/tuning. In the area of system selection, the problem is to evaluate and compare the performance of existing competitive systems, which are available for performance
measurements.
By obtaining execution time, the performance of Pentium IV was analyzed with ,
respect to its new architectural features as compared to Pentium iii under SPEC CPU2000 J... and certain application programs.
The performance of Pentium IV was also analyzed through some locally
developed programs. These programs help to determine the floating point accuracy of
Pentium IV as well as its hyperthreading technology.
With SPEC CPU2000, Pentium IV was observed to have an average speedup of .
2.18 showing that it is over two times faster than Pentium iii. When its floating point
accuracy was tested through a benchmark program to determine the square root of perfect numbers, the results show that Pentium IV is free from accuracy error.
Besides, the result shows that when the hyperthreading technology in Pentium IV
was utilized, the program is executed in less time than when it was executed sequentially.
