Abstract:
High rise buildings have been target of arsons in Nigeria: this is partly due to cover-up of financial improprieties and sometime to create awareness by unionist. This phenomenon has been aptly aided by poor design leading to structural failure of such buildings. While the capital base of banks and other financial institutions are being broadened through recapitalization, it is almost certain that the number of high rise buildings in Nigeria will increase.
This thesis report discusses the tools of architectural design for fire management
and control in high- rise buildings: circulation, cornpartmentation, choice of materials and
equipment. The provision and effectiveness of these tools will determine the extent that
the building will be protected against fire out break. Therefore, a planning model shall be
evolved using the tools to generate recommendations for high-rise bank building curbing
the menace of fire whenever it raises its ugly head. It was concluded that architects
should put more effort into their choice of interior finishes for high-rise buildings
