dc.description.abstract Historically, the existence of the human species has been traced to over 100,000 years ago, cities evolved only about 10,000 years ago during the time that systematic cultivation of plants and domestication of animals supported more permanent settlements. It has been argued that urban revolution predates industrial revolution because the former was a product of the emergence, of amongst other things, a surplus of storable food, complex social organization, and technological advances, such as plough, potter's wheel, loom and metallurgy. The surplus agricultural products produced in the countryside were processed and distributed in ‘cities’. The question to follow this position is how cities evolve in the first instance.
