dc.description.abstract An Inaugural Lecture is a time-honoured tradition of significance in an academic staff's career at the University. It is an academic initiation rite for formally admitting a worthy academic to the rank of Professor. It provides such a newly-appointed Professor with the opportunity to inform colleagues, the campus community and the general public of their contributions to scholarship, including current research and future plans relating to his field of study, to mark his appointment. It is an opportunity to share both his personal and professional achievements in research, engagement, teaching and innovation before an audience consisting of staff, professional colleagues within and outside the University, students, as well as friends, family, local guests/members of the community and the general public, thus helping to raise their awareness. An Inaugural Lecture also has the institutional significance of enabling the University to recognize and showcase the academic achievements of its staff and further enhance and improve its academic profile.... en_US
