dc.description.abstract ABSTRACT To achieve ecosystem management and environmental sustainability, it is essential to strike a balance between safeguarding the environment and promoting economic development and human well-being. This should be achieved by ensuring that resources are conserved, pollution is reduced, and biodiversity and ecosystem are preserved. This paper explores the role Nigeria should assume to achieve environmental sustainability by integrating digital technology and engineering. It investigates the challenges facing the country and offers solutions related to different sectors, such as energy, agriculture, and oil and gas. To achieve this, the paper utilizes existing literature, case studies, pilot projects, and expert insights. The truth of the matter is that when it comes to population and economic size on the African continent, Nigeria leads the pack. Nevertheless, the country faces significant environmental issues such as deforestation, pollution, inefficient energy production and use, improper waste handling, and flood damage related to climate change. Engineering has contributed to the development of the Nigerian economy through road building, waterworks construction, oil refinery construction, and power stations. But frankly speaking, sustainability has not taken prominence. As of today, there seems to be an emphasis on the application of technology such as IoT, AI, blockchain technology, and Digital. The results indicate that the implementation of digital technology improves efficiency and facilitates leaders' decision-making. These technologies can be effective through strong institutional support, fair financing, and solutions that actually fit the local context. The paper wraps up with policy suggestions, step-by-step plans for getting things done, a look at the main obstacles, ways to get around them, and some ideas for future research and action. en_US
