DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND EVALUATION OF A DIGITAL CONTROLLER FOR A WASHING MACHINE

Abstract

This project is aimed at improving the Control System of a washing machine. A new Control system was designed and Constructed. Unlike some conventional models in the market which, make use of electromechanical control, this design is purely electronics and it displays the mode and type of fabrics to be washed, which are added features. Additional facility was also incorporated into the system which enable a particular process to be repeated and this is done by the use of presettable up/down counter. As opposed to the conventional model, different type of fabrics have different decoding time cycle, that is to say that average washing period varies from one fabric to the other. Also the device is cheaper, simpler and convenient as opposed to the conventional mode. The system also offers greater flexibility since it can be adapted to control some other equipment like automatic electric mixer etc. In this project, the principle of operation, the design and performance evaluation were considered in details.
