dc.description.abstract Two of the problems of Satellite Personal Communications Systems are interference and multipath signals. These problems result in pronounced link degradation and affect overall capacity. To get rid of these problems, an adaptive antenna array on handheld/mobile systems is adopted. Adaptive antenna arrays have the ability to adapt to the changing environment and null out the interference and multipath signals. This technique performs better than omni-directional antennas currently used by manufacturers of these handhelds. The Kalman adaptive filtering technique has been studied and used in the simulation of the adaptive antenna arrays. The sidelobes that accommodated the interference and multipath signals were eliminated by appropriate the filtering technique to enhance better performance of the systems. Superposition approach on multi path signal was used by combining Signal of Interest with multi path signal. The resulting adaptive antenna array responses achieved, provided better services compared to omni-directional antennas currently used by the manufacturers of these mobile/handhelds units of Satellite Personal Communication Systems. en_US
