Abstract:
The synergistic effects of alanine, methionine and glutamic acid inhibitors and heat treatment, as a function of weight loss on the corrosion bahaviour of mild steel in the presence of 3% KCI were investigated. The corrosion rate and inhibition efficiency were determined. A microstructural examination to reveal the phases of the corroded samples was undertaken to ascertain the synergistic effect of some amino acid inhibitors and heat treatment on corrosion behaviour of mild steel. The result obtained showed that alanine was observed to be more efficient than both methionine and glutamic acid. Reduction in corrosion rate could be attributed to the adsorption of inhibitors on the steel at the initial stage of inhibition and film growth and stability of film at later stages of inhibition. The combined effect inhibitors and hear-treatment resulted in better corrosion resistance. This study was carried out due to its importance in providing useful data for organic inhibitors capable of curtailing the menace of corrosion in industries where steels are used for production of structures
