| dc.description.abstract | Development of hotel, motels and any tourist accommodation is subject to many influences. Motel trade is concerned with the provision of hospitality for the traveler. Its origin is traced back to 16th century to the inns and taverns of ancient Rome in order to meet the diversity of travelers and diners. Motel developed from accommodation along the road and waterways in 16th century, to accommodation along the railway in 19th century during the advent of steam and locomotive engine. 20th century came along with motor car which now led to modern development of motel along the highways to take care of travelers and their cars. This thesis work looks into existing motel, and a right assessment of these motels were done and this brought about the proposal of a motel that improves on the existing ones. The thesis will reveal the real concept of this proposal by catering for three categories of users. That is, planned stay, 'stop-over' guest and the community in which to be built. This can be achieved by providing maximum security for their life and vehicles. Also, by making the chalets accessible and be of good comfort for the users, through effective landscape. The benefit that the community is going to derive is paramount. The thesis satisfied the concept of motel, which indicates hospitality and comfort. The proposal provides for a well landscaped environment that enhances thermal relieve or comfort, a design that flows freely from one activity to another and proposal that solves the quandary of functionality and creativity in design. | en_US |
