Abstract:
A juvenile correctional center is succinctly put as large governmental institutions where social offenders (usually under aged) are kept under an action leading to improvement in that person's character and behaviour.
This thesis is therefore geared towards: the causes of juvenile crime, methods of preventing recidivism in the juvenile crime, through the examinations of an ideal functions of a correctional centre and also identifying factors responsible for the poor present situation in most current correctional centre. These are with a view of having a design proposal based on an ideal concept. And would be achieved taking into cognizance all the design criteria and the various paramount factors necessary to evoke a careful design through an in depth study and research as an architectural significance for positive results in accordance with desired functional requirements.
In order to determine the extent and scope of the thesis, an in depth architectural research study through case studies and oral interview were taken, to critically investigate and analyse existing projects to allow for adequate understanding of existing situations. An insight into the various commendations and condemnations were highlighted which help in the design of the proposed correctional centre.
At the end, the motive of enhancing the rehabilitating, training, reformative, and reiterative functions of the institution will be achieved by creating an ideal center for social correction which is humane with residential setting to produce a home-like environment with pleasant outcome.
