PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF INTERNET SERVICE CENTRES IN NIGERIA

Abstract

Internet service centers are increasing geometrically in the last one-decade. This is as a result of advancement in Information and Communications Technology and the benefits derivable from Internet services. Investors are currently diverting their attention to Internet services. The cost of providing Internet services is high. In a developing country such as Nigeria, Internet connectivity projects suffer a setback because of inadequate telecommunication infrastructures. In this research, three stakeholders were identified in the Internet service project, namely Management staff, Operation staff and the Internet users. Performance indices of Internet service centre were formulated. The survey of the performance indices were carried out by administering questionnaire in some internet service centres in Osun, Ondo, Oyo, Edo and Delta States of Nigeria. The factor analysis by principal of the performance indices were carried out using Statistical Packages for Social Scientists (SPSS). The objectives were to factorize the performance indices and estimate the contribution of each factor to the performance of Internet Service delivery. The contributions of the extracted factors were found to be less than 100%. The finding showed that the remaining percentage was attributed to the contributions of extraneous factors which loaded on indices that were not considered in the empirical study. The research provides a framework for auditing Internet Services in Nigeria.
