ANALYSES OF ONDO STATE GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION PROJECTS ON POVERTY ALLEVIATION FROM 2009 - 2014

Abstract

A study to determine the impact of Ondo State Intervention Programmes on Poverty Alleviation on Education, Health, and Infrastructural Sector of the State had been carried out. Two well-constructed questionnaires, based on Likert attitude scale were designed for the purpose of the study. 60 questionnaires were distributed to members of the public, represented by professional bodies. 30 questionnaires each were distributed to officers of the State Ministry of Works, state government health institutions and state zonal education offices in the three senatorial districts of the state. The 150 questionnaires retrieved were analysed using SPSS software for the descriptive and inferential statistics. The First questionnaire was designed for members of the public and also for professional bodies while the second questionnaire was designed for poverty alleviation agencies within the state. The result of the assessment carried out indicate that the state indigenes have felt much impact in the health and education sector as a result of the intervention projects carried out by the state government on these sectors. It was however discovered that majority of the residents have not felt much intervention in the infrastructural sector in the state. It was therefore recommended that the state government should provide more intervention projects in the infrastructure sector of the state as a means of intervening in the poverty situation of the state.
