dc.description.abstract Traditional attribute architectures and cryptosystems are ill-equipped to provide security in the face of diverse access requirements and environments. The problems of confidentiality, authenticity and anonymity occasioned by the exponential growth in digital technology have generated some security concerns, necessitating the review of security parameters for enhanced security. Consequently, we have been able to develop an Attribute-Based Signature (ABS) system using the Rivest, Shamir and Adleman (RSA) methodology tools. RSA algorithm is extensively used in the popular implementations of Public Key cryptography. Existing schemes are either too complicated or only proved in the generic group model. In this thesis, we have developed an RSA algorithm for generating signatures that overcomes the shortcomings of other schemes in the standard model. The RSA Encryption schemes were implemented in C# and the performance compared with previously constructed schemes. The results obtained show that signing, encryption, decryption and verification operations are more efficient compared to other schemes on all comparative parameters. In addition, this research is expected to provide a strong privacy for a signer and unforgeability for a verifier in ABS system. However, several applications of our ABS system can be seen in secure communications, such as anonymous authentication system and attribute based messaging system. en_US
